The burden of responsibility placed on MSPs (managed service providers) is huge. They not only must keep all their clients’ IT systems running and secure, but they also have to be proactive in data governance, backups, cybersecurity and much more. Plus, there are the small matters of internal HR, Finance, Marketing and the rest!

The ConnectWise ASIO platform is the go-to software that MSPs use to run their businesses, and on this episode of the Tech Means Business podcast, we talk to APAC Evangelism Director, Nick Moran.

Nick ran his own highly successful MSP business in Australia for nearly three decades, a company he started from scratch and built to a point where it was acquired last year. Instead of enjoying a well-earned retirement however, Nick soon joined ConnectWise to share his experiences and promote the capabilities of the company, plus he’s helping improve the platform further still, in line with feedback from frontline staff in MSPs across the APAC region.

Entirely developed from the ground up on cloud-native, containerised technology, and integrating AI functionality, the ConnectWise ASIO™ platform is the world’s first purpose-built platform for TSPs, taking ConnectWise ahead of its competitors in this highly specialised software space.

The Linux operating system and open-source software run much of the world’s digital infrastructure. Its unusual business model is based on value-added service agreements comprising support, maintenance, security, and bug fixes.

In 2024, many organizations using open-source software have been impacted by decisions by vendors to effectively prevent access to source code and sudden changes in end-of-life schedules on which businesses rely to prioritize spending.

This episode of the Tech Means Business podcast talks to Vishal Ghariwala of SUSE (one of the leading enterprise software supply and development companies) about the state of open-source in 2024. What alternatives are there for companies looking at the approaching end of support for their essential, business-critical software?

Vishal is the Senior Director and CTO at SUSE for the Asia-Pacific region and brings his experience from a lifetime in open-source to the table. We talk about byte-for-byte compatibility between different brands’ offerings, the spirit of innovation that comes from collectivism, and how software developed and freely distributed marries with traditional financial models.

One of those areas of the modern enterprise that’s crying out for digital transformation has to be agreement management: the process by which organizations can do business together.

The reason why agreements are in need of some technological muscle is down to their number, and the different layers of approval typically required in participating companies. How can the IT function help speed up agreement processes, but do it safely, efficiently and in line with best practice.

We turn to the de facto digital agreement solutions people, DocuSign, for some answers, in the form of Kartik Krishnamurphy. He’s joined in conversation with Patrick Lam of SoftwareOne, and James Cook University’s Vijay Shreenivos: two end-user organizations with very specific requirements.

How can companies generate value from digital transformation rather than just “make things happen on technology”? Our guests on this episode of the Tech Means Business podcast have the answers.

Even relatively modern cybersecurity concepts and access management technologies like PAM are beginning to falter confronted with hybrid- and multi-cloud environments. How can today’s privilege access management cope with multiple SaaS and IaaS apps and services, other than grant or deny blanket access?

We talk to Scott Hesford, the Director of Solutions Engineering, Asia Pacific at BeyondTrust, about applying granularity of privileges to multiple users at scale, and keep on top of it all, too. What could be a simple granting of privileges to a subcontractor for a day, can turn into a gaping cybersecurity hole that can bring an organization to its knees. And BeyondTrust is the company that’s here to help!

We talk about implicit zones, movement through the IT stack to get a day’s work done, and NIST’s airplane analogy for cybersecurity: who can get through to the departures lounge, who can board the plane, and (even) where a user can sit Or, in more direct terms, allowing a subcontractor to restart a service without sudo.

It’s all possible, it just needs the right partner; one with the cybersecurity tooling that’s not out of its depth in a multi-cloud, mobile, cloud-heavy environment.

Making a few purchases on an online marketplace site seems simple: a few clicks here and there, a payment card, and then sit back and wait for delivery. But under the hood, the complexity is astounding.

Marketplace operators not only have to send and receive funds in multiple currencies, but they also have to do it quickly, and they need to do it reliably. It’s that surety that keeps good vendors engaged with a marketplace and customers coming back, time and again.

So a payment gateway in this context is much more than a means of moving monies between different currencies. Keeping the fly-by-night characters out of the ecosystem and ensuring swift and reliable money transfers are the tasks of our guests today, Payoneer.

It’s a name behind many gig economy sites, retail marketplaces, and online entities disrupting and changing markets worldwide.

The company behind this business model has to establish trust among the disparate players: customers have to trust the site, and sellers need to establish trust in the integrity of their customers. The basis of all this is reliable, fast, and secure systems that give value to all participants.

Our guest from Payoneer is Eran Tal, the Enterprise Sales Director EMEA. We talk about new business models created by smart tech, how monies can be moved quicker than the oddly-named SWIFT system, and why a banking presence on the ground solves 80% of finance problems when trading internationally at scale.

Formed from the amalgam of FireEye and McAfee Enterprise, Trellix is one of the world’s biggest suppliers of cybersecurity technology, serving a decent proportion of the Fortune 500 list of companies.

On this episode of the Tech Means Business podcast, we’re joined by old friend Daryush Ashjari to talk about the new company’s offerings, especially its XDR (eXtended detection and response) capabilities.

As companies struggle to juggle multiple security tools and have separate detection and remediation systems, sometimes it’s enough just to keep from going under a deluge of red flags from different parts of the cybersecurity stack.

XDR offers organizations a single place where SecOps can get full oversight of all parts of the enterprise’s networks, from the smallest SoC up to powerhouse VMs in distant clouds. This is total insight presented to time- and resource-poor cybersecurity teams.

Bringing years of experience to what’s now called Trellix, Daryush helps us shed some light on the problems facing many security teams in the face of increased state-sponsored hackers, as well as the usual collection of avaricious cybercriminals preying on the internet’s low-hanging fruit.

If you suspect your IT security is lacking, or you’re struggling to recruit enough skilled cyber staff to discover and remediate threats, Trellix may well have the answer.

When organisations make an investment in technology or an IT transformation, the decision to do so should be based on a mixture of business strategy and technical knowledge. In either arena, it’s always a positive thing to bring in an outside, objective view of what’s needed, and why.

Our guest in this episode of the Tech Means Business podcast heads up the Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) region of, Wipro, that brings this necessary objectivity in spades. Sarah Adam-Gedge has had a stellar career in both technology and business consulting – and was an obvious choice for the Indian multinational.

With leadership roles previously at IBM and PwC (to name but a couple), she brings the type of perspective to Wipro that companies in the region need: a strategic, business vision combined with a passion for technology — that will ensure companies thrive.

Sarah Adam-Gedge talks to our host about her career to date, some of the challenges around deploying tech in big business, the future direction of Wipro, and some of the community-based activities the proudly Indian company is committed too. Show Notes for Series 02 Episode 18

This episode looks at one of technology’s less-regarded aspects, but one that needs quickly to be given a whole lot more attention: the sustainability of the tech we use, and our approaches and attitudes to achieve a greener, yet more technologically advanced future.

When your organization starts its next procurement round for a desktop or data center hardware refresh, how high up on the agenda are sustainability factors like the use of rare or heavy metals in components? Is the supply chain used driving up the carbon footprint of the solution? What about retirement options when the new equipment reaches end-of-life?

We’re joined by Gunnar Menzel, whose day job is at Cap Gemini, but whose passion, 24/7 is for a sustainable technology future.

We discuss how and why our seeming addiction to technology is consuming more and more resources, and what we can do to stem the inexorable tide of carbon emmissions, pollution and our own throw-away culture. Do we really need five-nines reliability? Are we willing to pay the cost for failover and always-on, or should we be scaling back our expectations?

This episode of the Tech Means Business podcast hopes to bring some of the concerns about the human race’s future on the planet firmly into the technologis’s sights, and provides a few answers as to what we can all do to ensure there is a future to enjoy.

Connectivity is a business imperative and is one of the first things companies plan when they open a new store, branch office or far-flung outpost. It’s a whole lot easier to get connected these days, too, but once an organization is linked up, how is that connection best optimized?

Step forward, SD-WAN — software-defined wide-area networking — a technology that lets business prioritize specific types of network traffic, stay safe, and allocate available bandwidth according to what the business needs, not physical constraints.

In this episode, we’re joined by James McInroe of Nuage Networks, the world’s foremost provider of SD-WAN technologies. Nuage is a venture that grew up inside Nokia, a company that knows a thing or two about connectivity & communication too.

We also talk to Peter Maquera of Globe Telecom, the Philippines’ biggest telecomms provider. Globe uses Nuage SD-WAN for its own retail stores, and also as part of its business connectivity offerings as a managed SD-WAN service. In that, Peter has seen both sides of the technology as it were.

The three of us talk about SD-WAN’s advantages over traditional WAN services, common use-cases, security bonuses, the speed of deployment, control and real-time monitoring. If your organization has five or more outlets or offices, this is essential listening.
